Amy Plint PERC Mentorship Award
The Amy Plint PERC Mentorship Award is awarded every year at the PERC annual meeting to a mentor demonstrating excellence in clinical research. Mentoring is the foundation for development of the next generation of scientists and health researchers. This annual award has been designed to recognize outstanding performance in the mentoring of research trainees and junior colleagues in the PERC network.

SELECTION CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY
All academic and clinical staff in the PERC network are eligible nominees. Candidates may not hold the award more than once.
The candidate should:
- have a strong track record of mentoring students, residents and junior colleagues/investigators in conducting clinical research related to pediatric emergency medicine;
- be actively involved in the development or execution of PERC mentorship;.
- strongly advocate for multi-disciplinary collaboration and teamwork in the conduct of pediatric emergency research;
- be supportive and devoted to colleagues and to the field of pediatric emergency medicine;
The candidate embodies the spirit of interpersonal and comprehensive collaboration as envisioned by Dr. Amy Plint and PERC.
PERC recognizes that systemic barriers and constraints have contributed to underrepresentation of Canada's diversity in pediatric emergency medicine. Applicants from all backgrounds, including those who identify as a member of an underrepresented group (Indigenous, Black, people of colour, women, persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ people) are invited to apply.
Nominations will be sought every year from the PERC membership. PERC members are to be nominated by current or former students, fellows, or junior faculty mentored by the nominee. Any PERC member can assist trainees with the nomination process and provide the one-page statement on the qualifications of the nominee. Nominations will be considered complete only when the following have been received:
- Letters from two sponsors, the first being from the person proposing the candidate outlining the rationale for this nomination, the second being from a person who wishes to second the nomination.
- A one-page statement describing how the nominee qualifies for the award with an emphasis on what makes them stand apart from their peers as a mentor, such as:
- Encouraging, facilitating and supporting mentees in developing their research careers and supporting their development as leaders in the field of pediatric emergency medicine;
- Acting as an effective research, clinical and/or leadership role model;
- Contributing to the development of mentorship advocacy at the regional and/or national level.
- A CV for the nominee that includes a list of trainees mentored by the nominee.
DEADLINE AND SELECTION PROCESS
This award recognizes a member’s outstanding ability to foster the intellectual, professional, and personal development of colleagues, pediatric emergency medicine trainees and/or graduate students/post-doctoral fellows, in the early stages of their academic career. Review and prioritization of the candidates will be made by the PERC Awards Sub-Committee.
Criteria for Assessment of Nominees:
- Exemplifies excellence in scholarship, professional conduct, and integrity, instilling a desire in others to emulate these qualities;
- Encourages, inspires and supports mentees to reach their full potential in ways that are tailored to each individual;
- Fosters the development of critical thinking, scholarly rigour, breadth of understanding and creativity, and professional competencies in areas such as written and oral communication, scholarly integrity and interpersonal interactions.
- Promotes and models a climate of respect and collaboration;
- Integrates mentees into the PERC culture and helps them network with relevant individuals; and,
Advocates for colleagues, peers and trainees and encourages them to make the best use of opportunities (e.g., professional development, workshops, courses and conferences).
The award will be announced during the PERC annual meeting.
