2022 PERC Annual Scientific Meeting

2022 PERC Annual Scientific Meeting

After careful consideration of the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, the PERC executive has come to the difficult but prudent decision to not hold an in-person PERC 2022 meeting.  We know how valuable and rewarding it is to see everyone each year.  The PERC meeting has facilitated the advancement of moving pediatric research forward, sharing results, advancing the next generation of researchers, and expanding our social and professional network.

While we will not have the opportunity to meet in-person, we are still committed to ensuring PERC has a virtual conference.  We will prioritize that trainees and staff have the opportunity to present their work, discuss new research ideas, and share results from PERC-endorsed projects.

We will be using the same dates that were held in our calendars - Sunday, January 30th – Thursday, February 3rd 2022.

You will find details below about the upcoming PERC 2022 meeting which will be held virtually including; Submission of Intention to Present Requests and Award Submissions.

  • Investigator Meetings - For this year only (due it being a virtual meeting), we will not be hosting the investigator meetings.  We encourage you to organise breakout meetings with these groups of people separately.

DAVID JOHNSON AWARD FOR BEST FELLOWS RESEARCH PRESENTATION (see attachment)

There have been a few revisions to the guidelines, specifically to the eligibility criteria for submissions. These have been highlighted below and the full guideline document is below.

  • The three semi-finalists will be required to have their supervisor write a descriptive letter of support which outlines what the fellow did throughout their project.  These letters will be reviewed and judged as part of the fellow’s presentation on the Monday night of the PERC annual meeting.
  • Only PEM fellows are eligible for this award. The presenter must still be at the level of fellow or been staff for 18 months or less.
  • Projects must be part of the scholarly activity for a PEM Fellowship.
  • Projects must be initiated and completed during the 2 year fellowship program. Protocol development and ethics approval may be obtained prior to starting fellowship but all data collection must take place during fellowship.
    • For example, prospective data collection in a cohort study, clinical trial or survey; retrospective data collection through chart review; analysis of a pre-existing data base; or abstract/full article screening/data abstraction for a systematic review must take place during the fellowship.
