2021 PERC Annual Scientific Meeting

PERC 2021 Virtual Annual Conference

Sunday January 31st – Thursday February 4th 2021

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, the PERC 2021 Annual Scientific Meeting was held virtually using Zoom. The Fellows Education Day was held on the Sunday prior to the research presentations - this day was a great success with four distinguished guest speakers. Dr. Olivia Tse presented “Building Resilience: Skills to Enhance Well-Being” recognizing the determinants of resilience and discussing the tools to enhance well-being in response to acute and chronic stress. We were fortunate to have Dr. Warren Ma from the University of Alberta join us again this year to run a workshop on  “Leadership through adversity” identifying key elements of leadership and applying leadership principles to real life decision making scenarios. Dr. Jocelyn Gravel presented the “Top Articles in PEM for 2020”, which is a session that’s always well received, and Dr. Sim Grewal finished the day discussing the job application process and how to be a successful and desirable PEM applicant.

We were fortunate enough to have the Scientific Director of Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP), a national knowledge mobilization network, and the Scientific Director of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health, Dr. Christine Chambers .She presented  “From Evidence to Influence: Moving Children’s Pain Research into Practice and Policy”.  This keynote described the need and importance of mobilization of research on children’s pain into practice and policy and identified key components of effective knowledge mobilization.

TREKK held their network meeting and presented to the entire group about their recent successes and what is planned for the future.

New this year, we introduced the “Amy Plint PERC Mentorship Award” to honor Dr. Amy Plint’s outstanding and exemplary mentorship role within the PERC network. This will be awarded annually at the PERC conference.
